Azmin: Terengganu political crisis requires state election

BY: SYASYA SUFIAN
SHAH ALAM, AUG 3: KEADILAN Deputy President Dato’ Seri Mohamad Azmin Ali said the current political environment in Terengganu is in critical condition and needs a new democratically elected administration.
However, he said the process depends on former Terengganu Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Said’s stand to remain with Umno or not.
“When a government no longer receives trust from citizens, there must be a re-election for a new mandate and the situation in Terengganu is very critical at the moment.
“Any decision by Ahmad will determine the next step for Terengganu. Therefore Umno and Barisan Nasional (BN) have no choice but to let the citizens decide,” he said when met at the State Government’s Open House Ceremony together on August 3 with civil servants, here.
Prior to this, Ahmad had expressed that he was not concerned with being sacked from Umno as a result of his strong criticism of the current Terengganu Menteri Besar Ahmad Razif Abdul Rahman and the state government’s administration.
He left the decision to the Umno Supreme Council following a request for him to be sacked.
Umno currently holds 17 seats in the Terengganu State Legislative Assembly while PAS holds 14 seats and PKR is only represented by one assemblyman.
Should Ahmad be sacked from Umno and join the opposition, Terengganu may witness a 16-16 equal seats situation between government and opposition that can lead to a snap poll.
AZMIN
If that happens, Mohamed Azmin reminded Pakatan leaders to learn from the recent Sungai Besar and Kuala Kangsar by-elections.
“We should take heed of what the citizens want.
“If we set aside all prior sentiments, I believe we will continue to progress in our mission,” said Azmin.
