Dream of owning home finally realised after being rejected by five banks

BY: NAZLI IBRAHIM
SHAH ALAM, AUG 10: Realising his advanced age and limited financial capacity, Yusuf Ayub, 78, had to forget his dream of owning his own home.
He had to forgo his dreams after more than 10 years of trying to apply for loans at five banks, all of which were rejected.
But his heart filled with hope again upon finding out about Selangor Government’s launching of Selangor Government Rent-And-Buy Scheme (Dana-Sel Scheme) to assist those unable to secure loans to own a house.

“Over-aged without money. So I consulted with the children. Thank God, I am now able to move into a new house next month.
“There are no payments other than the RM300 rental that will be paid by one of my children as I am not able to manage anything else.
“I would like to thank the State Government for helping the poor like me,” Yusuf told SelangorKini at a luncheon for Dana-Sel Scheme recipients at Rimba Jaya Apartments on August 10.
Meanwhile, another Dana-Sel Scheme participant, couple Rohaya Sungip, 41 and Mazlan Endut, 49, were also relieved when their dream of owning their own home was finally realised.
“We have been trying to buy a house since 2005 but it is only now that we have succeeded. The problem was that my husband was blacklisted by the bank. We tried to appeal but to no avail. Fortunately, the State Government worked on our case until we got a unit here,” said Rohaya.
She explained that they only had to pay a RM300 monthly rental for 20 to 25 years before they become full-fledged owners; without deposit or high monthly payments on a bank loan.
“I am grateful for the house, and I will make the RM300 monthly rental payments, God-willing.  To those who helped us, thank you,” she said.
