SHAH ALAM, AUG 30: The State Government takes the August 22 incident of a collapsed drain wall at Q-Dees Preschool, Taman Kelab Ukay Gombak seriously.
Infrastructure, Public Amenities, Agricultural Modernisation and Agro-Based Industry Exco Zaidy Abdul Talib said that a termination notice has been issued to the contractor following the maintenance failure at the development site.
“The State Government has instructed for the Klang River widening work to be halted immediately.
“Focus on works to reinforce the riverbank and maintenance work on the collapsed wall should be carried out to ensure that the soil movement at Q-Dees Preschool can be addressed,” he said in a statement.
It is understood that the soil movement occurred at the site as a result of the East Klang Valley Expressway (EKVE) Project, which involves widening of the Klang River.

Zaidy said that based on their supervision, it was found that the EKVE contractor was actively working on reinforcing the riverbank, and that 50 out of 150 pieces of sheet piles have already been installed.
“The river widening work caused the damage on the structure of the drain wall which borders Q-dees Preschool and the river reserve (development site),” said Zaidy.
Meanwhile the MPAJ report found that the incident of the drain wall collapse occurred due to EKVE’s failure to reinforce the soil during their excavation works to install an L-shape at the Klang River.
Committed to ensure the safety of local residence, Zaidy said that a special committee was formed to ensure that the contractor adhered to set conditions.
“The State Government, through the Highway Development Monitoring Committee, is always closely monitoring all highway development works in Selangor so that developers adhere to the conditions set,” he said.
