RM10,000 Sime Darby windfall for Azizulhasni

SHAH ALAM, AUG 18: The bronze medal winning achievement of national keirin expert, Mohd Azizulhasni Awang, at the Rio Olympics has brought him a surprise windfall in the form of a RM10,000 reward from Sime Darby Foundation (YSD).
YSD Chairman Tun Musa Hitam said that ‘the Rocket Pocket Man’s’ first Olympic medal in the keirin event for Malaysia was worthy of recognition.
“You have worked hard to give your best and we are proud of your achievement.
“The entire country rejoices with you. Let us also not forget coach John Beasley and the entire team’s efforts which has borne fruit. You all have made Malaysia proud,” he said in a statement.
Azizulhasni is the a member of YSD Track Cycling Cycling Team ‘Road to London Olympics 2012’ that received sponsorship of RM2 million between 2009 and 2012 from YSD.
YSD then continued its sponsorship with a sum of RM2.85 million for Azizulhasni and Fatehah Mustapa through the ‘Road to Rio’ programme.

Azizulhasni, 28, had gold winning prospects but could only manage a bronze in his third attempt after failing to qualify for the finals during the 2008 Beijing Olympics and a sixth place finish during the 2012 London Olympics.
After his historic win, Azizulhasni reminded Terengganu Menteri Besar Ahmad Razif Abdul Rahman and other associated parties to open their eyes to the achievement.
Azizulhasni posted on Facebook alleging that Ahmad Razif did not bother to help him and his fellow riders Fatehah (both Terengganu locals) who were competing internationally.
“Thank you for not bothering to buy a ‘RoadBike’ bicycle for our use for the Olympic Games’ preparation although the proposal was sent more than a year before the Rio Olympics,” he posted.
Azizulhasni’s statement not only attracted the attention of the media and social media users but also managed to illicit a response from Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin.
