SHAH ALAM, AUG 19: The global community is urged to play a larger role in helping victims of conflict and violence as well as the ravages of natural disasters no matter the political differences, race and religion.
Selangor Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali said in his World Humanitarian Day statement that the millions currently living in refugee camps are often deprived of basic necessities due to war, and face starvation and poverty.
“This year’s theme of “One Humanity” sums up the crucial need for all of us across political, racial and religious divides to stand together and do our best to provide the much needed help to the millions around the world,” he said.
Mohamed Azmin added that those who believe in the dignity of every human being and the sanctity of life must collectively do our part to ease the victims’ suffering.
He also paid tribute to the selfless people who put themselves in harm’s way to offer humanitarian aid to those in need.
Selangor are among the states that are actively aiding victims of conflict and natural disasters, both within Malaysia and abroad.
These include humanitarian aid for flood victims in Kelantan, Cameron Highlands, Terengganu, Perak and Pahang, victims of the Sabah earthquake and conflict victims from Nepal and Chechnya.
