SHAH ALAM, SEP 5: A total of 14,877 police officers from the Selangor Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) are eligible to pay their zakat through Skim Berkat, a monthly salary deduction scheme implemented by the Selangor Zakat Board (LZS) after zakat reassessment.
According to LZS’s official website, based on the reassessment, they are targeting a 30% increase in zakat collection through monthly salary deductions, equivalent to RM250,000 a month.
“So far, a total of 5,500 PDRM officers have joined the scheme with a total salary deduction of RM190,000 a month.
“Simultaneously LZS has also launched the Kempen Tambah Caruman Zakat to encourage existing zakat contributors to reassess their zakat contribution to meet the actual amount required in Islam,” he said in a statement.
He said the campaign targets individuals who have been paying zakat through salary deductions for three years with the same amount.
“The campaign is held for four months from September to December 2016.
“Those who wish to increase their monthly salary deductions for zakat can do so by visiting the 28 LZS branches throughout Selangor,” he said.
