Bersih 2.0 geared up for biggest national ‘roadshow’

PETALING JAYA, SEP 27: The Coalition for Clean and Fair Elections (Bersih 2.0) is all prepared to launch its biggest roadshow and Bersih 5 Convoy, which will be held simultaneously across the country.
Bersih 2.0 Deputy Chairman Shahrul Aman Mohd Saari said that Convoy 5.0 starts on October 1 and will take 7 weeks before its climax, the Bersih 5 Peaceful Gathering which will be held in Kuala Lumpur on November 19.
“The objective of Bersih 5 Convoy is to initiate communication on national level and raise awareness on Bersih’s demands for institutional reform and on the seriousness of 1MDB crisis,” said Sharul Aman.
He was speaking during the Bersih 2.0 media conference at its office in Pusat Perniagaan 8 Avenue on September 27.

He explained that Bersih 5 Convoy will journey across 246 cities, towns and villages throughout Malaysia, including Sabah and Sarawak.
He also said that Johor Bahru Municipal Council (MBJB) will be involved with the launch on the first day at 10 am, and that it will end in Kulai.
Meanwhile in the northern region, the launch will be held at Pasar Borong Kangar before ending in Alor Setar, Jeti Lumut; ending points also include Teluk Intan (west), Padang Bank Kota Bahru, Kelantan as well as in Kota Bahru city.
In Kota Bahru, the event also will involve a cycling convoy.
Meanwhile in Sarawak, the convoy will be launched at a private parking area in front of Park City Everly Hotel and will end in Bintulu.
In Sabah, the launching ceremony will be in Bandar Letat, Sandakan and finish in Semporna.
He also said that the convoy will continue the tour the following weekend, until it enters the Lembah Klang area, around November 5 to 18.
According to him, every area will be led by a Bersih 2.0 Committee Member and will be coordinated with local committee members.
He said, the convoy members will hold briefing activities with local communities before continuing their journey the following weekend.
