Jelajah 1MDB Johor: Muhyiddin advocates Reformasi

BY: ERMIZI MUHAMAD
PASIR GUDANG, SEP 26: For the first time, former Umno Deputy President Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin shouted “Reformasi!” during the 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) Roadshow Series on September 25.
The cries of “Reformasi!” were uttered three times by Muhyiddin at the beginning of his speech before he was greeted by supporters. It was seemingly his first appearance together with the opposition-vociferating phrase most synonymous with KEADILAN Leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
‘Reformasi’ refers to the cries for change demanded by Anwar during the 1998 crisis which led to his sacking as deputy prime minister.

The crisis ultimately resulted in the formation of the Peoples’ Justice Party led by President Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail.
Muhyiddin was earlier sacked from Umno for his loud criticism of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s administration relating to the financial scandal of government-owned company, 1MDB.
Following that, he and former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad formed the Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) which is now seen as being ‘friendly’ with the opposition.
Meanwhile, Muhyiddin in his speech continued to reveal more 1MDB financial irregularities as the company’s debt is now a burden on the rakyat.
“Ministries will no longer receive budgets as before. As an example, the Health Ministry has been unable to meet the cost of medicine due to budget cuts.
“The question is how does 1MDB continue to burden the rakyat? The answer is, the debt from 1MDB is causing rakyat to suffer as the money which rightfully should go to them is now being cut to pay off debts,” he said.
