KAPAR, SEP 21: The State Government is prepared to face the high tide phenomenon expected to recur in October.
Dato’ Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali said the State Government has instructed all agencies involved, as well as the Department of Irrigation and Drainage (JPS) to repair broken and old barriers.
“According to the weather report, the same incident is expected to recur mid-October, November and December.
“As such, before it happens, we ask all agencies and JPS to repair all barriers in order to avert future incidents,” he said.
He was speaking at the flood relief centre of Dewan Orang Ramai Kampung Tok Muda.
Mohamed Azmin described the phenomenon as unusual, which caused immediate floods in the affected villages.

“One of the reasons for the floods was the high tide reaching beyond 5.6 metres, and this was unusual. For that reason, we have taken steps to monitor barriers along all beaches in Selangor.
“Priority will be given to these areas that are prone to flash-floods,” he said.
Mohamed Azmin also wants all parties, including residents, to be vigilant in facing this situation.
Earlier, a total of RM3.5 million was allocated for widening and raising the 750 metre barrier in Lang River.
Beginning September 18, the high tide phenomenon has been causing floods in several areas in Sepang, Kuala Langat, Klang, Kuala Selangor and Sabak Bernam.

The strong current also broke and damaged some barriers.
The National Hydrography Centre recorded high tides in Port Klang for the past few days.
On September 18 water level was 5.6 metres, on September 19 recorded level was 5.5 metres, while on September 20 water level recorded was 5.5 metres, and on September 21 is 5.2 metres.
Mohamed Azmin visited the family of the late Kuala Selangor District Council Secretary Azahari Sairin, who passed away yesterday.
“I value the late Azahari’s contributions to the state. May his soul be blessed and find eternal peace. Al Fatihah,” he said.
