MB: Legal proceedings will begin upon expiry of 48-hour period

BY: NAZLI IBRAHIM
PUCHONG, SEP 23:  The State Government will begin legal proceedings to protest the redelineation proposal by the Election Commission (EC) if there is no feedback received at the end of the 48-hour period on September 24.
Dato’ Menteri Besar Selangor Dato’ Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali said, this decision was taken when the appointed lawyers found that the EC has violated the Constitution.
“We have already discussed with our lawyers to look into the EC’s proposal. Our focus today is to use all legal means available to oppose the proposal given on September 15, as feedback received clearly showed that the EC has violated the constitution in their proposal.

“In Selangor particularly, the proposal can affect the racial harmony of the state and split races with multiple religions, cultures and traditions,” he said.
He was speaking during the media session at the Multilevel Interchange from LDP to Jalan Utama 2 Launching Ceremony, at Puchong Utama on September 23.
He said this following a notice sent by the State Government to the EC, giving them 48 hours to have a discussion or at least provide feedback on the basis and mechanism in forming new electoral borders.
Mohamed Azmin, who is also People’s Justice Party (KEADILAN) Deputy President, said that he is prepared to mobilise every party member in all areas to object the EC on this matter.
“In the Federal Constitution, there are three parties who can object to EC’s delineation of electoral boundaries and they are the State Government, local authorities and 100 voters from a particular area.
“We are mobilising all our members at all levels to raise their objections to EC within the legally stipulated timeline, which is 30 days, beginning September 15,” he said.
