Putrajaya should follow Rumah Selangorku policy

SHAH ALAM, SEP 13: The Federal Government is recommended to follow the Rumah Selangorku policy which is actively being implemented in Selangor.
Housing, Building Management and Urban Settlement Exco Dato’ Iskandar Abdul Samad said the policy is effective in solving house pricing issues based on the current market.
He said that the policy requires developers to build more affordable homes for the benefit of Selangor citizens.
“The Rumah Selangorku policy which has been effect since January 2013 requires developers to build affordable housing or Rumah Selangorku.
“For example, developers of housing projects exceeding 10 acres, must build 30% to 40% affordable homes out of the whole project.
“There are several pricing structures ranging from RM42,000, RM100,000, RM150,000, RM180,000, RM220,000 dan RM250,000,” he said in a statement.
He was commenting on Urban Wellbeing, Housing and Local Government Minister Tan Sri Noh Omar’s attack on the state’s management of housing prices in Selangor.
Noh, in his latest statement, claimed that the Federal Government is more committed and on dedicated to monitoring their own housing projects compared to the Selangor administration.

“Although the State Government is not controlling the prices directly, we are still nevertheless ensuring there are houses in the market that meet the criteria of those in the middle and lower income.
“Since the effort was enhanced in 2015, more than 20,000 housing units have been approved for development, and the State Government controls the sale of affordable homes,” said Iskandar.
He said, developers can only sell Rumah Selangorku to buyers who are registered with the Selangor Housing and Property Board based on their household income.
“I am certain that the Rumah Selangorku policy to a certain extent solves the issue of house prices which are spiralling out of control.
“The Federal Government must have the ‘political will’ to ensure that citizens with low and middle incomes are protected accordingly,” he said.
