Redelineation exercise threatens rakyat’s harmony

BY: LIZAWATI MADFA
SHAH ALAM, SEP 25: The redelineation exercise suggested by the Election Commission (EC) clearly threatens the harmony of Malaysia’s citizens.
KEADILAN Youth Chief Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad said that it was based on racial context and destroys existing mixed seats.
“We are obviously saddened by the exercise as it destroys the basis of multiracial harmony.
“Even with the redelineation, I believe it will be hard for the state opposition to retake Selangor,” he told SelangorKini.
Dato’ Menteri Besar, Dato’ Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali previously said that the legal action will be considered after the EC failed to reply to the issues raised by the state government.
The EC also failed to provide any explanation whether the redelineation exercise had contravened the Federal Constitution.
The EC’s suggestion was not only objected by Pakatan but also received criticism from Barisan Nasional component parties.
MCA viewed the move as a bad move for a multiracial and multireligious country while MCA also admitted that it was not happy with the EC’s suggestion.
In addition, Gerakan also claimed that the redelineation would affect its chances of winning seats in several constituencies.
