BN challenged to increase GST before PRU-14

BY: NAZALI IBRAHIM
KUALA LUMPUR, OCT 25: The Federal Government was challenged to increase the Goods and Services Tax (GST) before the 14th General Election (GE14) if they are confident the tax will not affect the rakyat’s lifestyle.
The challenge was thrown by Bayan Baru Member of Parliament (MP) Sim Tze Tzin, when some of the Barisan Nasional’s MPs, Sungai Besar MP Budiman Mohd Zohdi, stated that GST would not affect the people’s support for BN.
“If you are confident that the people will still support BN, I dare you to increase GST to 8% before GE14,” said Sim when he interjected during the Budget 2017 debate by Budiman at the Dewan Rakyat on October 25.
Before that, Rasah MP Teo Kok Seong, who also interjected, said that BN acted dishonestly to voters after they did not clearly and straightaway implement GST if upon winning GE13.
He said, if BN was that confident that GST is acceptable and will not affect the people’s lifestyle, BN should be forthright by including GST in their election manifesto.
