PUCHONG, OCT 10: Local authorities in Selangor have been instructed to carry out inspections and take action on factories operating illegally around river reserves and surrounding areas.
Local Government, New Village Development and Illegal Factory Legalisation Exco, Ean Yong Hian Wah said the move is to prevent water contamination incident as what had happened at the Sungai Semenyih Water Treatment Plant recently.
“Instructions have been given to all the local authorities to conduct special operations to act on illegal factories operating on the river reserves,” he told media today.
At the same time, he said, the state government together with local authorities are actively monitoring this issue.
Recently, a water contamination incident has caused the Sungai Semenyih Water Treatment Plant’s operations to be discontinued for recovery measures.
Investigations revealed the source to be coming from a factory operating illegally in a nearby area.
As a result, several areas in Hulu Langat, Kuala Langat, Petaling and Sepang experienced disruptions in water supply.
