Rampant financial scandals: Putrajaya urged to stop leaks

BY: ERMIZI MUHAMAD
KUALA LUMPUR, OCT 17: The loopholes in Putrajaya’s administration must be curbed to ensure its effectiveness benefit citizens, said Opposition Leader Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail.
She said budgets allocated to ministries should be channeled into social and economic development programmes.
“We certainly do not want misappropriation of funds for other purposes.
“Like what happened to RM100 million in the Youth and Sports Ministry and the 1MDB scandal.

“It is about time that these ministries start to spend money professionally for citizens’ welfare,” she said during the debate session at Dewan Rakyat on October 17.
Wan Azizah said the continuous scandals in Putrajaya will continue to erode public confidence, and thus restrict development.
“It is also more embarrassing when our athletes perform better in spite of the RM100 million scandal in the ministry,” she said.
Earlier, revelations of embezzlement showed that the money for the purpose of sports development in Malaysia was misused by top government officials.
The revelations created a conflict of integrity in the ministry, in the midst of efforts to enhance social and economic developments.
However, Putrajaya has yet to provide further comments on this case.
