Sultan Muhammad V is Malaysia’s 15th Yang di-Pertuan Agong

KUALA LUMPUR, OCT 14: The Sultan of Kelantan, Sultan Muhammad V was chosen as the 15th Yang di-Pertuan Agong to succeed Tuanku Abdul Halim Mu’adzam Shah effective December 13, 2016, for a duration of five years, as announced after the 243th (Special) Conference of Rulers at the Istana Negara.
The Sultan of Perak, Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah, has been appointed as the Deputy Yang di-Pertuan Agong for the same period.
Tengku Muhammad Faris Petra, 47, the eldest son of Sultan Ismail Petra, was previously appointed as the Deputy Yang di-Pertuan Agong in 2011.
Tuanku Abdul Halim’s reign as the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, which begun on December 13, 2011 will end by December 12.
The special conference, which lasted for an hour, was chaired by Raja Perlis Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Putra Jamalullail to appoint the 15th Yang di-Pertuan Agong and his Deputy.

Besides Raja Perlis, the conference was also attended by Yang Dipertuan Besar Negeri Sembilan, Tuanku Muhriz Ibni Almarhum Tuanku Munawir; Sultan of Terengganu, Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin; Sultan of Pahang, Sultan Ahmad Shah; Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah and Sultan of Johor Sultan, Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar.
Sultan Muhammad V has three other siblings, Tengku Mahkota Kelantan, Tengku Muhammad Faiz Petra, 37, Tengku Muhammad Fakhry Petra, 33, and Tengku Amalin Aishah Putri, 27.
He uses the title of Sultan Muhammad V after being proclaimed as the 29th Sultan of Kelantan on September 13, 2010.
