Tun M: Eliminate GST, examplarise Selangor if wins

BY: NAZLI IBRAHIM
MALACCA, OCT 11: The opposition coalition is committed to helping the people by eliminating the Goods and Services Tax (GST) should they win the coming 14th General Election, said Parti Pribumi Rakyat Bersatu (Bersatu) Chairman, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
The former premier also said that Pakatan will try its very best to help the rakyat in any way it can as what the Selangor Government is doing currently.
“When Datuk Seri Najib is toppled, we shall restore this country. We eliminate GST. We will help the rakyat as much as we can like what Selangor is doing.
“Selangor is rich, it can provide water for free. But Kedah cannot do that because it is a poor state, we still have to charge for it but we can reduce the charges,” said Mahathir in the 1MDB – 1 Malaysia Dalam Bahaya Roadshow Series at Taman Paya Dalam.
He said the new government will help rakyat as best as it can, including facilitating small traders to get business licenses.
He said the ‘government in-waiting’ will also help the communities to be independent through various courses to help them to secure jobs with commensurating salaries.
“The way that Najib bribes the rakyat, he gives the Bantuan Rakyat 1 Malaysia (BR1M), rakyat do not need to work but get the BR1M. This is not good. We should earn our money with the energy that we contribute. If people do not know how to do the work, then we send them to study with scholarships. That is the right way, not by giving money,” he said.
He said, for that purpose, the new government will strive to create more employment opportunities for citizens at all levels.
“Nevertheless, in order for that to happen, you need to first topple Umno and Najib,” said Mahathir.
