BERA, OCT 3: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak is allegedly Malaysian Official 1 as exposed by the United States Department of Justice (DOJ).
Former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad said this while referring to the report and expose of the financial scandal involving the Umno president.
“MO1 is Najib. He has his own ministers who admitted it and said that the individual is Najib.
“Maybe the minister did not finish reading the DOJ report, because if he did, he would know what MO1 really did and who embezzled the money,” he said.
He spoke to SelangorKini during an exclusive interview at a hotel during the Jelajah 1MDB programme recently.
Umno minister Datuk Abdul Rahman Dahlan previously confirmed that MO1 who was referred to 36 times in a DOJ civil suit relating to 1MDB embezzlement is the Prime Minister.
“I have said this openly, it is clear if you read the documents that it is the prime minister,” Rahman was quoted by BBC.
In July, the DOJ filed a civil suit to freeze assets in the United States that were allegedly bought using embezzled funds from 1MDB.
In the expose, the DOJ did not name Prime Minister Najib as the individual, but revealed the individual allegedly owned USD681 million in his personal account.
The prime minister has previously denied involvement related to any wrongdoing and embezzlement of citizens’ funds for personal purposes.
