Bank Negara international reserves RM407.8 billion as of November 15

KUALA LUMPUR, NOV 23: Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM)’s international reserves amounted to RM407.8 billion (equivalent to $98.3 billion) as of November 15, 2016 compared to RM405.5 billion (equivalent to $97.8 billion) on October 31, 2016.
BNM’s media statement said that the reserves are sufficient to finance 8.4 months of retained imports and 1.2 times of short-term external debt.
Main components of the international reserve are foreign currency reserves (USD90.9 billion), the reserve position in the International Monetary Fund (USD0.8 billion), Special Drawing Rights (SDR) (USD1.1 billion), gold (USD1.6 billion) and other reserve assets (USD3.9 billion).
BNM assets are gold and foreign exchange and other reserves, including SDR’s (RM407.839 billion), Malaysian government papers (RM1.765 billion), deposits with financial institutions (RM1.2 billion), loans and advances (RM7.845 billion), land and buildings (RM2.114 billion) and other assets (RM6.121 billion).
Liabilities comprise of paid-up capital (RM100 million), reserves (RM123 billion), currency in circulation (RM91.348 billion), deposits by financial institutions (RM177.277 billion), deposits by the Federal Government (RM8.47 billion), other deposits (RM804.769 million), Central Bank papers (RM6.631 billion), SDR’s allocation (RM7.759 billion) and other liabilities (RM11.522 billion).
