SHAH ALAM, NOV 19: Dato’ Menteri Besar, Dato’ Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali has condemned the authorities’ actions in arresting BERSIH leaders.
Comparing such actions as dirty tactics, Mohamed Azmin also said that it was clearly a threat towards civil society leaders.
“I do not see any reason why the authorities should attack citizens who want democracy and a better government.

“What they should do is arrest the corrupt leaders in Putrajaya and not go against the rakyat,” he said.
He said this at the SMUE Phase 2 Bukit Antarabangsa constituency and Gombak parliamentary constituency presentation ceremony at the Menteri Besar’s residence today.
Azmin said that BERSIH did not violate any laws and was guaranteed by the constitution.
“I hope that the authorities will release BERSIH 2.0 Chairman Maria Chin Abdullah and other leaders immediately.
“They should be the enemies of the corrupt and thieves. Their actions wil create a negative image for the country,” he said.
He added that he would not stop Red Shirts if they wanted to have a demonstration.

“If the Red Shirts want to have a demo, they can do so and we will not have any objections, but don’t make it at the same time and place.
“Why must they do it today? The rakyat will get more upset with such antics and it is the police’s responsibility to ensure that peaceful gatherings are held properly,” he said.
