PETALING JAYA, NOV 27: In an effort to turn Selangor into a Smart State, the State Government has organised the Selangor Makers and Innovation Carnival (SMIC) 2016.
Education, Human Capital Development, Technology and Innovation Exco Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad said that the inaugural carnival is a specific platform to celebrate the community of makers in the general society.
He said SMIC gave makers a chance to exhibit their inventions, build networks and encourage more people to begin experimenting and producing new products.
“SMIC also plays a role in exposing the public to the latest technology such as 3D printing, drones, coding and the Makers’ culture that is developing throughout the world.
“In Southeast Asia, Malaysia is actually behind countries like Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam,” he said while delivering the opening speech at SMIC 2016 held at The Strand shopping mall on November 26.
Around 35 groups of Makers and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics)educators too part in the exhibition.
Some interesting exhibitions included a mind-control wheelchair, driverless vehicles and the youngest Maker, who is 11 years old.
In addition, three free workshops were held for demonstrations throughout the day.
