BY: SYASYA SUFIAN
KUALA LUMPUR, NOV 22: Former Malaysian Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad expressed his disappointment that the democratic government he built has now become a government which steals from the people.
He said that the country’s leadership has fallen into the hands of people who rob, steal and embezzle the properties of citizens.
“Najib has abolished democracy. The law is used at will, to detain and charge anyone with irrelevant laws.
“Today, they can commit any brutality towards citizens because the Inspector General of Police (IGP) in on his side; although he should be the one protecting the citizens,” he said in his speech in Dataran Merdeka on November 21.
Mahathir also said that several Bersih leaders who were arrested were not merely detained.
“I feel very sad; our government can abuse and torture innocent detainees especially Maria Chin.
“Our country has become a country that does not adhere to laws. This is happening due to Najib’s arrogance; to save himself from the crime he has committed, citizens are treated unfairly.
“A person like Najib should not become Prime Minister,” he said.
