SUBANG JAYA, DEC 15: The rejection of reviewing Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s case is not a hindrance to strengthening the commitment to bring about changes in the country.
KEADILAN Deputy President Dato’ Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali said the struggle to free the KEADILAN de facto leader will continue because he was slandered and oppressed.
“We are not fighting for the individual, but for a person who was oppressed and this has never happened in history of mankind.
“The decision will ignite the spirit, and this is an effort to call on citizens to implement change,” he said.
Mohamed Azmin urged all parties to cooperate for change, so that the injustice on Anwar will not happen to anyone else.
“If such thing can happen to a former Deputy Prime Minister, what more ordinary citizens?
“Therefore, we all need to unite to effect change, and I think this is an important message to deliver to citizens ahead on the 14th General Election (PRU-14),” he said.
At the same time, he rejected the views of analysts claiming that Anwar’s issue is no longer relevant for the election.
On the contrary, Mohamed Azmin said that Anwar’s role is very important regardless of where he is.
“They can analyse but the fact is that his role cannot be denied whether he is inside or outside.
“His role is still relevant in the current political context,” he said.
On December 14, the Federal Court rejected Anwar’s appeal to review his conviction and sentence on his slander 2 case.
Following the decision, Anwar will have to undergo his remaining 16 months prison sentence in the Sungai Buloh Prison.
