Assemblymen and MBPJ cooperate to fight floods

SHAH ALAM, DEC 12: A special project to clean-up and upgrade the flooded area in Taman Dato’ Harun have been set-up to resolve the issues in the area.
Taman Medan Assemblyman Haniza Talha said the Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) is actively working on repair works along the drainage of water-flow in Petaling Jaya Selatan 4 and Sri Manja.
“The water level in the drain in front of Buana Perdana is high and the cross-culvert in Buana Perdana is lower than the water level.
“This caused water to stagnate on the road and playground, as it could not flow out to the big drain.

“Hence MBPJ will raise the Buana Perdana road level and reassess the drainage system in the area,” she said in a statement.
She said a new drain will be constructed along Jalan Petaling Jaya Selatan 2/1, as an initiative to ensure the area will not be flooded.
Last year, MBPJ approved a project to build a water catchment pond (OSD) near Sekolah Dato’ Harun to address the flood issue in the area.
However last week, it started to flood around the Dato’ Harun and Buana Perdana residential areas due to several additional projects in the area.

At the same time, the reclamation of old mines have also been linked as the cause of water overflowing at catchment areas.
Previously, Haniza together with Zone 17 Council Member Ahmad Akhir, and representatives from Petaling Irrigation and Drainage Department and MBPJ Engineering Department (Drainage and Infrastructure), had held a special discussion on the issue.
The discussion on December 8 was also attended by representatives from MBPJ Solid Waste Department and MBPJ Zone 18 Council Member.
