Fireworks market explosion: 29 dead, 70 injured

MEXICO CITY, DEC 21: A firecracker market in the Mexican capital city exploded, killing at least 29 people and injuring 70 others.
REUTERS international news agency reported that the explosion happened in the San Pablito firecracker market in Tultepac, about 32 kilometres north of Mexico City.
Tultepec emergency services chief, Isidro Sanchez said that death toll is expected to increase while the search and rescue mission continues.

According to Sanchez, the explosion is probably due to a lack of safety measures.
“The lack of adequate safety measures is most likely to be the cause of the explosion,” he said.
The explosion is the latest, after a similar incident occurred 10 years ago in Tultepec market in September 2005, during Mexico’s independence day celebrations.
