“Pongal is a festival celebrated with much joy by the Indian community in Selangor, irrespective of religion and beliefs.
“The festival was convivial with elements of culture, and rich in family values,” she said when officiating the festival at the Sri Maha Mariaman temple here.
Dr Daroyah also advised the younger generation to understand the meaning, logic and values behind the celebration as its implicit social values are still relevant and apply to the current situation.
“Congratulations to the Sementa State Legislative Assembly Indian Community. The programmes are very lively. I hope this can be done every year,” she said.
She said the food made from vegetables from the villages, are being provided to educate the younger generation on their ancestors’ native cuisine.
