GOMBAK, JAN 27: The State Government donated RM1.6 million to 20 mosques, 5 surau and 5 religious schools in Gombak for renovation and repair works.
Dato’ Menteri Besar, Dato’ Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali said all the institutions are very important to foster unity and produce a knowledgeable society among Muslims.
“The State Government, through the Selangor Islamic Religious Council (JAIS), does allocate provisions for continuous renovations and repairs for surau, mosques and religious schools.
“This is because the State Government is of the view that mosques and surau are places where Muslims converge in unity, while religious schools are important in producing children who are not only knowledgeable but also of good character and leadership,” he said.
He said that to SelangorKini during Program Kenduri Rakyat at the Al-Mardhiyah Mosque in Taman Melawati on January 27.
During the ceremony, every mosque and religious school in the Gombak Parliament constituency received RM50,000 each, while each surau received RM20,000 each.
Mohamed Azmin expects these institutions to utilise the contribution for the benefit of the local community.
Besides distributing donations and performing Friday prayers, Mohamed Azmin also mingled with the local community who were already familiar faces to the Gombak Member of Parliament.
