SABAK BERNAM, JAN 26: The water suction method using large-scale pumps, are being used to reduce flood waters in affected areas of Sabak Bernam and Sungai Besar.
Dato’ Menteri Besar, Dato’ Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali said 8 units of water-pumps are being utilized for that purpose.
“Department of Irrigation and Drainage (JPS) Selangor is using 8 units of pump to suck water out of waterlogged areas.
“We expect the work to be completed the latest by this Saturday (January 28). If the weather improves, the evacuees can return to their respective homes,” he said.
Mohamed Azmin said until now, all State Government agencies with collaboration from the local authorities, Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM) and police, are still present in flood-prone areas.
He added that detailed preparations have been made in the event that river-water and sea-water throughout the state start to overflow.
“I appreciate the commitment of the ATM, PDRM and Welfare Department for working very well with the state disaster unit; not to mention the district office and Sabak Bernam District Council (MDSB) for managing the welfare of flood victims,” he said on January 25, during the Flood Victims Aid Distribution Ceremony at Dewan Parit Baru.
Meanwhile, as of 5 pm of January 25, the number of evacuees sheltered at 3 relief centres in Sabak Bernam were reduced to 357, compared to 407 on the morning of January 25.
Selangor State Disaster Unit Spokesperson said 158 people from 45 families are still sheltered at Dewan Sri Bernam, while 167 people from 50 families are in Dewan Parit Baru.
The total number of victims in Dewan Sri Nakhoda declined to 32 people from 8 families, compared to 83 people from 9 families on morning of January 25.
