MPS: Negative attitudes akin to throwing money away

BY: LIZAWATI MADFA
SELAYANG, JAN 23: Residents of Selayang are urged to manage their garbage more systematically and efficiently with the Selayang Municipal Council (MPS).
Yang Dipertua Suliman Abdul Rahman said high garbage management cost can be saved with cooperation from residents.
He added that the money saved can be used for developments such as building or repairing facilities and basic infrastructure.

“MPS is spending 48% of its income to manage garbage that fail to be well managed at domestic level.
“If we all take care of cleanliness together and manage it well, then we can return the money to the community in many forms which are more beneficial.
“Unfortunately, our current attitude seems to be allowing the 48% to be thrown away in vain,” he said at the Thanksgiving Ceremony for the resolution of TNB Site and Pole Route Removal Issue recently.
Suliman said a community’s negative attitude affects the local authority’s spending.
“Even if we raise the assessment tax to increase income, it will be useless if the attitudes do not change.
“For example, we increase tax by RM10 but the cost to manage garbage also demands the same increase. Then, how are we going to develop and progress?” he said.
