BY: AFIX REDZUAN
KUALA LUMPUR, MAR 9: Kuala Langat Member of Parliament, Datuk Abdullah Sani Abdul Hamid urged the Federal Government to expedite the Employee Insurance Scheme (SIP) implementation to protect their welfare.
He said, neighbouring countries like Thailand and Vietnam have implemented this scheme since 2004 and 2009 through a computerised system.
“I still insist and ask for the Federal Government to focus on issues we are facing in 2017 because this issue have been raised for the past three years.

“If this was implemented in 2014, those who were ill-treated in 2016 would have been helped. I ask for this to be quickly presented so that they (employees) can benefit from it,” he said at the Parliament Lobby today when asked to comment a Minister’s response on SIP.
During an oral question and answer session, Abdullah Sani had asked the government to provide the measures taken to expedite SIP implementation to help workers who have been laid off.
The Human Resources Deputy Minister, Datuk Seri Ismail Abd Muttalib in his reply in dewan Rakyat said the SIP draft proposal will be brought to the Cabinet Meeting soon for approval.
Besides that, an SIP Bill will be presented in the coming Dewan Rakyat session before implementation in 2018.
SIP is an improvement in the existing labour scheme which among others aim to help employees who have been laid off to find new jobs within a certain timeframe.
