Why is Selangor excluded in EC delineation recommendation notice?

BY: ERMIZI MUHAMAD
KUALA LUMPUR, MAR 15: KEADILAN Election Director, Nurul Izzah Anwar questioned the Election Commission’s (EC) action in excluding Selangor from the recommendation for delineation of electoral boundaries notice.
She said, that violates the principle in the Constitution which the society in this country holds to dearly.
“EC is so desperate until it had to issue a delineation recommendation notice for Tanah Melayu which excludes Selangor, in a notice in newspapers dated March 8, 2017.
“This violates Article 1 (6) under the Constitution which states that delineation process for Tanah Melayu must be done as one unit and for Sabah and Sarawak, by each state, she said during a debate session in Dewan Rakyat yesterday.
KEADILAN had studied all forms of action taken by EC in proceeding with delineation of electoral boundary proposal for states in the Peninsular.
The State Government has also warned that EC is violating another guideline in the Constitution causing problems to the local authorities and disconnecting societies in the process.
Following that, the state’s administration has filed a lawsuit against EC concerning the delineation proposal which clearly disconnect the race compositions in Selangor.
