SHAH ALAM, MAY 3: Investment promotion agency, Invest Selangor Berhad (Invest Selangor) is optimistic that the 2017 Selangor International Expo (SIE) will help to boost investment this year.
It’s Chief Executive Officer, Dato’ Hassan Azhari Idris said the annual event has shown positive development when it managed to generate transactions worth approximately RM100 million last year.
He said, Invest Selangor expects to achieve investment worth RM6.5 billion this year compared to RM6 billion last year.
“Although the number of transactions did not involve actual numbers but we are certain that it will boost investment in this state while carrying out continuous promotional activities through cooperation with government agencies and promotion missions abroad,” he said.
Hassan said SIE 2017 is an annual trade show for trade and investment, organised since 2015, for the purpose of making Selangor the business and trade hub in the Asean region as well as being the gateway to the region.
He said that the main focus in SIE 2017 is the potential industries such as life sciences, food and beverage as well as halal products.
“Through this event, we not only promote markets in Selangor and Malaysia, in fact it includes ASEAN, which also offers great potential for companies that could make Selangor as a center of production, distribution and headquarters for the region,” he said.
He is also certain that SIE 2017 can attract more participation from local and foreign companies as Selangor has many advantages in terms of location and skilled workforce from our local universities.
SIE 2017 will be held for 10 days, from September 7 to 17 with the aim to intensify and strengthen the economy of Selangor.
Investment, Small & Medium Industries, Trade and Transport Exco, Dato’ Teng Chang Khim said, SIE 2017 is the third time this event is organised, and it is extended from three days to 10 days due to the overwhelming response from local and foreign investors.
“Strengthening of e-commerce, biotechnology, aerospace and halal industry is the focus for international trade through this SIE. It is because these industries are growing parallel with the current global economy, “he said.
