LZS: RM33 million distributed to help asnaf

SHAH ALAM, MAY 30: The Selangor Zakat Board (LZS) distributed approximately RM33 million zakat in aid of the asnaf (individuals who fall in categories eligible to receive zakat money), poor and Muslim converts across Selangor, this Ramadan.
Selangor Islamic Religious Council (MAIS) Chairman, Dato’ Setia Mohamad Adzib Mohd Isa said out of that amount, RM10 million were distributed to 13,567 fakir asnaf families.
“RM21.7 million have been distributed to 12,567 poor asnaf families.
“While the balance of RM1.2 million was distributed to 2,637 asnaf Muslim converts,” he said in his speech during the Breaking Fast Ceremony with His Royal Highness the Selangor Sultan with the people at the Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah Mosque yesterday.
In the meantime, Adzib said that the Selangor Zakat Board (LZS) has also appointed 2,721 assistant amil fitrah across Selangor throughout this Ramadan.
“Therefore, the public is advised to pay their zakat only to appointed amil with LZS accredited cards,” he said.
Adzib also informed that zakat collection for 2016 was RM673.7 million and the amount distributed was RM697.5 million.
Adzib added that for waqf management, collection for Selangor waqf shares was RM7.8 million last year.
Meanwhile for waqf benefits collection was RM810,080 and special waqf receipts was RM43 million.
Besides that, the value of waqf properties managed by Selangor Waqf Corporation for 2016 was RM439 million with 925 assets among which are lands, premises and bazaars.
