SHAH ALAM, MAY 17: The rate of zakat fitrah for Muslims in Selangor this year remains at RM7, said the Selangor Zakat Board (LZS) Chief Executive Officer, Hussin Mohd Ali.
He said, LZS has appointed 2,600 chiefs and state assistant ‘amil fitrah’ throughout the Ramadan to ensure the zakat collection runs smoothly.
He also expected to collect RM22.5 million zakat fitrah from Muslims in Selangor this year.
“Last year we collected RM22.2 million and believe we can achieve our target this year,” he said after the Zakat Selangor Kasihku Programme Launching Ceremony at the Blue Wave Hotel.
LZS opens its 28 branches throughout the state for seven days a week from8.30 a.m. to 4.30 p.m. on weekdays and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on weekends and public holidays.
At the same time, Hussin also encourages zakat payment online to facilitate those who lead a busy lifestyle.
“We also encourage zakat to be paid in the early month of Ramadan to avoid congestion and the public is requested to do so with amil who are appointed and qualified,” he said.
