Businessmen called to pay ‘zakat harta’ through LZS

DENGKIL, JUNE 21: His Royal Highness the Selangor Sultan, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah has called Muslim businessmen who invest in Selangor to pay their zakat harta (alms) to the Selangor Zakat Board (LZS).
In his decree, he said that businessmen who run their businesses in Selangor but pay their zakat harta in other states should feel ashamed as it is the citizens of this state who give them success and profit.
“Muslim businessmen who have acquired their wealth and profit in Selangor but pay their alms in other state merely to gain popularity are actually breaking the rules of zakat harta,” he said.
He said that in Al-Ilmi Mosque, Kampung Dato’ Ahmad Razali in conjunction with the Breaking Fast with Rakyat and Hari Raya Donation Giving Ceremony.
Based on the views of Islamic scholars, they have jointly agreed that zakat harta (property alms) or zakat perniagaan (business alms) must be given in the state where the profit is derived whether it is the product from manufacturing, farming, rented houses and othere.
