BY NORHAYATI UMOR
RAWANG, JUL 3: At least 250 species of Merawan trees will be planted to replace pine trees cut by the Selayang Municipal Council (MPS) recently.
MPS Landscape Department Director, Mokhtar Affandi Abdul Ghani said, the Merawan tree replacement take into account the suitable types of roots that can be planted without damaging road and drain structures.
“It takes into account safety aspects after receiving complaints from the public on the trees which have exceeded its age limit and risk of falling especially during heavy rain.

“The replanting is scheduled this month,” he said when commenting on the residents’ protest against cutting down the pine trees in the Country Homes compound.
The Country Homes City residents earlier protested against MPS cutting down pine trees in the area.
They want the trees maintained and not destroyed in the effort to preserve the environment.
He said, the pine trees have also become a part of the identity of Country Homes which was also the attraction when people bought houses in the compound.
The residents claimed they waited almost 20 years for the trees to become shady and protect them from heat.
