PETALING JAYA, AUG 30: The Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) will implement the Coupon-System Carpark in Petaling Jaya effective this September 4.
Its Mayor, Dato’ Mohd Azizi Mohd Zain said the coupon-system is an alternative for carpark charges payment method in Petaling Jaya.
“The Coupon-system Carpark involves all existing “On-street” parking in Petaling Jaya.
“Nevertheless, there will be no changes in the existing parking rates for now,” he said the Media Conference for the Coupon-system Carpark in MBPJ Launch.
According to Azizi, there will be three types of coupons which are Hourly Coupon at RM6 per booklet, Daily Coupon (RM25 per booklet) and Monthly Coupon at RM100 for each monthly pass.
“The public can get these coupons from 16 agents appointed by the council.
“The agent’s list can be obtained from MBPJ’s official website at www.mbpj.gov.my,” he said.
Azizi added that the new system is also being implemented as the council has terminated the current concessionaire’s services.
He said the company signed a 20-years contract since year 2000 and will end in 2019.
“However, we decided to terminate the contract as the company has failed to pay monthly rental with arrears reaching up to RM7 million.
“Not only that, they also failed to enforce and maintain the machines that we received so many complaints from the public,” he said.
At the same time, Azizi said, within six month of implementing this coupon-system, the council will decide if they will manage the parking themselves or appoint another concessionaire.
