MPK actively improving back alleys

BY NORHAYATI UMOR
SHAH ALAM, AUG 22:  The Klang Municipal Council (MPK) is actively implementing programmes to clean and beautify the back alleys of commercial premises, in line with the State Government’s intent to realise Smart Selangor.
Its Yang Dipertua, Dato’ Mohamad Yasid Bidin said, for the programme, MPK has made Taman Eng Ann commercial area as the pioneer location, to be emulated by other areas in the district.
He said, through the programme, MPK shall ensure waste disposal and collection are done as per schedule and more systematic.
“This is one of the programmes organised by MPK and local commercial community in an effort to raise awareness and protect the cleanliness of food stalls and market premises to be in a clean, organised and more attractive condition.

“With this programme, all back alleys of commercial areas or food premises will be cleaner and nicer. Taman Eng Ann commercial area will set the example for other areas in Klang district,” he said.
He was speaking at the 2017 Back Alleys Cleaning and Beautifying Programme Launch Ceremony at the Taman Eng Ann Commercial Area recently.
Yasid said, MPK will conduct more patroling and inspection to ensure the programme is successful and to ensure premise owners comply to the Local Authority’s laws and regulations.
He said, the attitude of some owners placing their goods on the walkways and back alleys is cause of obstruction to public, spoils the view and dirty the area.
“This attitude causes problems such as the breeding of carrier animals like rats, mosquitoes and cockroaches, clogged drains and obstruction to cleaning contractors from clearing the drains and illegal waste dumping,” he said.
Following that, he hoped that the commercial area can be an attraction to the public and tourists besides creating a Clean Premise (A Grade) for the all food premises.
“We want to encourage total involvement from the community in order to create a healthy and safe community through effective health education and knowledge on health awareness education,” he said.
