SHAH ALAM, AUG 11: All land owners near Raja Musa Forest Reserve are urged to maintain and upkeep their land well or face stern action.
Tourism, Environment, Green Technology and Consumer Affairs Exco, Elizabeth Wong said, there is an ongoing restriction against open-burning and those involved can be fined up to a maximum of RM500,000 and five years jail.
She said, that is to prevent recurring incidents.
“All land owners, whether in Bestari Jaya or in the whole state must remember, restriction on open-burning is still in force.
“Any violation will result in stern action and the case being brought to court for further action,” she said to SelangorKini.
She said that, commenting the fire incident in Raja Musa Forest Reserve, Bestari Jaya, last Sunday at compartment 100,101 and 102 measuring 120 hectares of land.
At the same time, Wong said, the State Disater Unit’s (SDU) quick action and good coordination enabled the fire to be controlled and extinguished in a short time.
“SDU’s initial investigation found the cause to be from one lot of land near the Raja Musa Forest Reserve.
“Due to the dry spell and strong wind at that time, the fire had quickly spread to the forest reserve. Currently there is still 20% of burning spots,” she said.
Meanwhile, the State Government through the State Forestry Department will continue its conservation programme as soon as the dry season ends in the Peninsular.
She said, a total of 20,000 trees will be planted in the Raja Musa Forest Reserve.
“The burnt area was undergoing conservation activities prior to this and the activities will resume after the dry season,” she said.
