BY NAZLI IBRAHIM
KUALA LUMPUR, AUGUST 25: The founder of Malaysian automotive industry through the Proton branded vehicles, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, wishes to set-up another national car manufacturing company to replace Proton Berhad which is now owned by a company from China, Zhejiang Geely Holding Group (Geely).
Mahathir said, that can be done if Pakatan Harapan (Pakatan) wins the 14the General Election (GE14).
“There are many engineers who left Proton and they can start a new automotive industry.
“We have expertise from A to Z, designing and everything that is required. We use several sophisticated electronic equipment for a car,” he said.
He said that in a forum last night, which discussed about China’s investment issue, at the Dewan Perhimpunan Cina Kuala Lumpur dan Selangor (KLSCAH).
He said, setting up an automotive industry such as Proton can help to boost the economy when it opens up more opportunities for spare-part manufacturing companies.
