Himpunan Semangat Sejuta Umat to urge Myanmar cease violence

SHAH ALAM, SEP 21: The Himpunan Semangat Sejuta Umat, expected to be held either this October 28 or November 4, is expected to urge the Myanmar Government to stop the violence on Rohingya ethnic.
The Malaysian Consultative Council for Islamic Organisation (MAPIM) President, Mohd Azmi Abdul Hamid said they are targeting 1 million individuals, irrespective of race and religion, from 50 cities around the world, for this assembly.
“We are very disappointed with the international bodies which are seen to be compromising with this murder, in fact, the unofficial statistics that we have received says that thousands of Rohingya ethnic have been killed by the Myanmar troops until today.
“Therefore, this assembly is to deliver a firm message from people around the world, especially Malaysians, who can no longer wait with the way these international bodies are handling this matter,” he said after chairing a meeting on the assembly yesterday.

At the same time, Mohd Azmi said, they also invite all politicians to come to the assembly to show support for the ethnic.
“We are also targeting 100 non-governmental associations (NGO) irrespective of background to come down to the grounds and condemn the Myanmar Government’s action,” he said.
He said they are now considering several locations and will be discussing with the police for advise on a suitable location.
“We are also planning the theme, attire colour and suitable logo to be the official assembly symbols. We shall have another meeting to discuss further,” he said.
