Over 10 million use the Smart Selangor Free Bus

SHAH ALAM, SEPT 25: A total of RM42.5 million were spent by the State Government and Local Authorities (LA) to provide the Smart Selangor Free Bus, to date.
Investment, Small & Medium Industries, Trade and Transport Exco, Dato’ Teng Chang Khim said the RM33.5 million were provided by the State Government while the remaining RM9 million were borne by the Local Authority.
He said the LA were Shah Alam City Council, Klang Municipal Council, Subang Jaya Municipal Council, Ampang Jaya Municipal Council, Kajang Municipal Council, Selayang Municipal Council and Sepang Municipal Council.
“The costs incurred includes rental costs, management and maintenance that are fully accountable to appointed bus companies.

“Other costs includes wrapping cost and six percentage of Goods and Services Tax (GST),” he said.
He said this at the 100th Smart Selangor Bus Launching Ceremony, at the Main Entrance of Sunway Pyramid Shopping Centre, here yesterday.
The ceremony was officiated by Dato ‘Menteri Besar, Dato’ Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali and was also attended by Selangor State Assembly Speaker and Subang Jaya State Assemblyman Hannah Yeoh.
Chang Khim said the performance of Smart Selangor Bus service would be categorized as an outstanding with 10,734,359 passengers for the period from 1 July 2015 to 31 August 2017.
“With the overwhelming response, the State Government is confident to provide continuous support and assistance to the joint venture with local authorities in increasing the route and adding new buses.
“The efforts are to ensure Smart Selangor Bus service is more comprehensive and has a network with other public transport systems,” he said.
