Selangor the biggest GDP contributor at 22.7%

SHAH ALAM, SEP 6: Selangor is the country’s largest Gross Domestic Product (GDP) contributor for 2016 with 22.7 per cent contribution, according to a report released by the Department of Statistics, Malaysia today.
Six countries contributed 70.6% to the national economy in 2016.
Selangor is the largest contributor at 22.7% followed by WP Kuala Lumpur (15.3 %), Sarawak (9.8 %), Johor (9.4 %), Pulau Pinang (6.7 %) dan Sabah (6.7 %).
The Department of Statistics also reported that eight states exceeded the national growth rate (4.2%) in 2016.
The Federal Territory of Labuan recorded a 7.2 % growth followed by the Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur (5.9 %), Johor (5.7 %), Penang (5.6 %), Selangor (4.8 %), Kelantan (4.8 %), Sabah (4.7 %) and Melaka (4.5 %).
EKONOMI SELANGOR
The economic structure is different for each state. The dominance in service sector can be seen in WP Kuala Lumpur (87.7 %), WP Labuan (76.2 %),
Kelantan (66.4 %), Perlis (64.3 %), Perak (60.9 %), Selangor (60.1 %) and Kedah (54.5 %) .
Penang, Malacca, Negeri Sembilan, Terengganu and Johor contributes equally in the Service and Manufacturing sector.
On the other hand, the Agriculture sector has significant contribution in Kelantan (24.6 %), Pahang (23.4 %), Perlis (21.6 %) dan Sabah (19.1 %).
The services sector was largely contributed by Selangor and WP Kuala Lumpur with 25.2 % and 24.8 % respectively.
For most states, the Wholesale and Retail activities are the main drivers of the Services sector, except for Terengganu, Perak, Perlis and WP Labuan which were mostly driven by the Utilities and Financial activities.
The Manufacturing sector was mainly contributed by Selangor with 28.9 % contribution followed by Penang and Johor with 12.9 % and 12.6 % respectively.
The national GDP per capita increased from RM37,123 to RM38,887.
The GDP per capita for six states exceeded the national level, led by WP Kuala Lumpur (RM101,420) followed by WP Labuan (RM61,833), Penang (RM47,322), Selangor (RM44,616), Sarawak (RM44,333 ) and Malacca (RM41,363).
