State Government made the right decision, saves management cost

BY LIZAWATI MADFA
SHAH ALAM, SEP 26: The savings registered by the local authorities proves that the State Government made the right decision to dispose waste at the Jeram Disposal Site.
Local Government, New Village Development and Illegal Factory Legalisation Exco, Ean Yong Hian Wah said the local authorities could save on its management cost eventually channeling the savings to other areas.
“Among them, the local authorities could channel more resources to develop local infrastructure.
“Therefore, closing the Shah Alam Transfer Station (SATS) has not only made no difference to waste collection work, in fact it benefits the citizens,” he said to SelangorKini.
Last September 21, four local authorities, Petaling jaya City Council (MBPJ), Shah Alam City Council (MBSA), Subang Jaya Municipal Council (MPSJ) and Ampang Jaya Municipal Council (MPAJ) said they managed to save money with the closure of SATS.
They claimed that transporting to Jeram is more cost-saving with RM36 per tonne in tipping cost compared to RM64.55 per tonne in SATS.
The local authorities also said, so far, they have not received any complain or additional budget request from the contractors involved.
Dr Idris Ahmad (Ijok Assemblyman) chaired the hearing which lasted over two hours, joined by other committee members, R. Rajiv (Bukit Gasing), Ng Tien Chee (Balakong) dan Dr Halimah Ali (Selat Klang).
Idris said, the hearing certainly dispelled rumours that solid waste management in those areas will be in a mess.
“We were told that waste management will become a havoc, that was the reason we hold this hearing but it turned out to be the opposite.
“It seems that closing SATS, owned by the Federal Government, is a better option for us,” he said.
