Three factors why we failed to form a Malaysian nation

BY AFIX REDZUAN
SHAH ALAM, SEP 13: Politics, economy and social media are among the causes of failure in forming a Malaysian nation until now.
Malaysian International Islamic University (UIAM) Senior Lecturer, Dr Maszlee Malik said, those factors are supported with rhetoric political slogans with no defined content.
“Political slogans come and go. What we are disappointed with are empty rhetorical slogans.
“The fact is we need actions in the field of life rather than slogans,” he said.
He said that at the Roundtable Session and Nation Building Research Centre Establishment Launch at the Darul Ehsan Institute (IDE).

According to him, two-faced politicians plus the fragile support for the leaders and the economic standing of people in the middle-class also leads to the failure of forming a Malaysian nation.
The situation is made worse with the democratization of social sites without any control when some individuals can say anything with no restraint.
Maszlee also outlined seven new pillars that can be applied to form a Malaysian nation.
Those are love and mercy, humanity for all, equality irrespective of colour and religion.
Besides that, there must be mutual respect, responsibility, equal opportunity and appreciation for universal values.
“We need a new narrative for all race, ethnic and religion to build a Malaysian nation,” he said.
