SHAH ALAM, OCT 13: PAS has urged the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to pressure the Federal Government to quickly enact the Political Contribution and Expenditure Act.
Its Deputy President, Datuk Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man said, PAS supports MACC’s revolution but claims that it would be tough to achieve as long as Barisan Nasional (BN) is in power.
“This act would surely help MACC achieve its revolution.
“But as long as BN is in power, it is difficult for MACC to be free as it should.
“If the suggestion is good, PAS will support MACC. But BN is the huge stumbling block that must be removed first,” he said.
He said, PAS agree with MACC Deputy Director (Operation), Hasbillah Mohd Salleh’s statement using the word ‘revolution’ against corruption as the nation’s number one enemy.
Tuan Ibrahim said, the real reason for confusion among the citizens relating to corruption is BN’s intervention in MACC over the years.
“The most glaring example was when, in the midst of the RM2.6 billion and RM42 million SRC International donation issues, Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Najib Razak announced on November 17, 2015 that government-linked companies (GLC) and government-owned companies through Finance Minister Incorporated, is allowed to contribute to politicians and political parties as a part of their corporate social responsibilities (CSR).
“And this can be done without any act to regulate. The question is, where is the line between bribe and donation?
“Are we allowed to receive gift, from certain individual or group who has their own interest, as long as it is called a donation?” he asked.
Hasbillah reportedly said, society in general is still confuse with the interpretation of receiving gifts from particular individual or group with their own interests.
