KKM to give local authorities to monitor dengue

BY ERMIZI MUHAMAD
SHAH ALAM, OCT 31: The Health Ministry (KKM) is proposed to allow local authorities in Selangor to conduct inspection inside housing compounds, for dengue.
Dato’ Menteri Besar, Dato’ Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali said that is required for local authorities to be able to take action against owners who fail to clean their houses from Aedes habitats.
“Most of dengue cases are caused by hygiene problems inside housing compounds and it is difficult for local authorities to take action as they are not authorised.
“I have discussed with Health Minister on how can we empower local authorities to conduct inspection inside housing compounds.
“For now, only a ministry-appointed officer is allowed to inspect inside houses.

Mohamed Azmin was speaking to reporters at an Memorandum of Understanding Signing Ceremony at Laman PKNS this morning.
Earlier, the source from the CPRC National Dengue Movement Room, Ministry of Health Malaysia (MOH) revealed that Selangor recorded 40,722 dengue cases until October 30.
It is followed by Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur with 7,042 cases and Johor 6,856 cases.
Meanwhile, Mohamed Azmin said the State Government is consistent in ensuring that dengue problems are addressed through the ongoing plans through relevant agencies.
“We are always taking proactive measures including imposing tough action on individuals, developers or homeowners who fail to keep their premises clean,” he said
