Amirudin will not contest for PKR’s Top 5 post

By Syauqi Jamil

SHAH ALAM: Selangor Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari today confirmed that he will definitely take part in the upcoming PKR party poll.

However, he stressed that he will not be contesting for any one of the party’s ‘Top 5 post’.

“I will definitely be involved but still unsure which post that I will be contesting for.”

“My priority now is Selangor… Maybe my voice is also needed in the central leadership but despite that, I will not be contesting for any of the Top 5 post,” he said.

Speaking to reporters after an event in Sungai Kandis, Amirudin also addressed the possibility of his predecessor, Economic Affairs Minister Mohamed Azmin Ali in contesting for the party’s top post.

He said that PKR has always been a party that welcomed democratic voice as well as a difference in opinion.

“We proved that differences doesn’t stop us during the election. At the general elections, PKR won the most seat in Pakatan Harapan (PH) despite people claiming there are pacts, camps and difference of opinion in the party.”

On Wednesday, Azmin who is the incumbent PKR Deputy President continued to keep mum on the post he is targeting for the upcoming party polls.

He said he is still undecided whether he should defend his deputy president’s post or run for president, adding that the decision will be made before the party election scheduled to take place in September.

Last weekend, PKR deFacto leader Anwar Ibrahim in a statement had said that he will contest the post of president.

He said the decision was made after receiving support from party President Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, Azmin himself, as well as other party leaders.
