Mukhriz slams ‘next by-election could be Langkawi’ remark

By Syauqi Jamil

KOTA RAJA: Kedah Menteri Besar Mukhriz Mahathir condemns the remarks of a leader from ‘the other side’ which allegedly claimed that there will be more by-election taking place in the future.

It gets more personal for Mukhriz as the remark then stated that other constituency that may be going through a by-election is Langkawi, a Parliamentary seat currently held by his father – Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

“I was asked by the media earlier. Apparently there’s a leader from that side who said that supposedly there will be many more by-election taking place.

“Supposedly its a good thing for them as they think there’s a chance for them to win. They said other area that’s going to have a by-election is Langkawi,” he said during his speech in Sungai Kandis last night.

Although he didn’t elaborate further on the identity of the ones responsible for the remark, Mukhriz defended his father, saying that death is a factor that no man but God controls.

“This is a kind of statement that should not be said by neither the youth nor the seniors. Death is beyond our control.

“Who knows, we the younger ones may go first. The (fate of) one who said it (Langkawi remark) too is still uncertain” he said.

Making a point that man can’t control destiny, the Jerlun lawmaker pointed out that no one would have thought that Malaysia would have a 93-year old as a two time premier.

On Monday, Umno veteran Annuar Musa predicted that the Sungai Kandis and Balakong by-elections, which was forced to be held due to the deaths of their incumbents, won’t be the last.

According to the Ketereh lawmaker, by-elections took place because God wanted to test Selangor.

“The campaigning for the Sungai Kandis by-election isn’t over, and we have another by-election in Balakong.

“I believe after this, God will decide on more by-elections, I don’t know where, Langkawi or where else,” he said at the BN Command Centre in Sungai Kandis.
