KUALA LUMPUR: The New Economic Policy (NEP) should cater to the people’s needs rather than their races, Economic Affairs Minister Mohamed Azmin Ali.

He said Putrajaya are set to review NEP because any affirmative actions by the new policies must meet the demands of the nation.

“We are still discussing the review because we strongly believe Pakatan Harapan’s economic policies should not be based on race.

“We should be able expand it to national level and see how far our economic policies can benefit all Malaysians,” he said today.

Speaking to reporters at the Parliament lobby today, the Gombak lawmaker also confirmed that the Economic Planning Unit (EPU) has been assigned to look into the matter.

He added, the proposed review is expected to be ready in November.

NEP is an affirmative action policy that was drafted after the May 13 riots in 1969, will be reviewed in line with the aspirations of a New Malaysia in ensuring a sustainable economic growth as well as a fair distribution.
